Welcome to Outward Bound Staff Symposium in Finland!
The idea of the event is to provide the participants with real learning experiences, real help and bring nature close the event. In Finland, the year 2009 is a Kalevala-celebration year, which is why we chose Kalevala as the theme of Staff Symposium.
In the program we will be showcasing the depth and diversity of Outward Bound activities. The performers all have extensive experience.
In Staff Symposium, nature will be present on many levels. The Hyvärilä youth center is located on a very beautiful place, on the shores of lake Pielinen (one of our largest lakes, Pielinen stretches over a 100 kilometers). Typical for this area are large forests and mountainous views. The program consists of many nature-based workshops: wilderness-skills, orienteering-skills and experiencing the nature. Autumn is one of the richest seasons in Finland. The participants can pick berries and mushrooms literally right around the corner and enjoy the colors of autumn at the same time.
We will create an exhibition area where every Outward Bound school can showcase their organization and activities. The idea is to make the world of Outward Bound visible for everyone. This also creates a good opportunity for different schools to share information concerning their own activities and culture.
We would like to welcome the entire Outward Bound world to Staff Symposium 2009!
